Meet your representatives

Fuimaono Semi Asafo
Elected

Talofa lava, malo e lelei. I am a parent representative seeking re-election onto the Board of Trustees. My wife is a member of staff - we have three children who attend Holy Cross and one child enrolled in its Arohanui unit. I bring extensive governance experience being a trustee on four other Boards, holding offices in Risk & Audit, People & Culture and Presiding Member. I contribute legal, HR and Pacific perspectives to Board discussions, challenging the status quo and seeking to implement positive change within the school community.

Holy Cross is entering an exciting phase with its building project, positive roll growth and connecting with mana whenua - te Kawerau a Maki. There are positive opportunities which I would like to implement to build upon this momentum including creating a connection with the wider Holy Cross community and strengthening its staff diversity to reflect its community of learners.

I am committed to the vision and mission of Holy Cross and will utilise my skills and expertise to help build upon the work of those who have gone before us.

Soifua ma ia manuia.

Rhiannon Morris
Elected

My name is Rhiannon Morris and I am standing for the Holy Cross school board.

I whakapapa to Ngāti Tawhirikura hapū of Te Āti Awa iwi, and have many Tūpuna from Wales and England. I grew up on the North Shore, attending St. John’s Primary and Carmel College. My husband is Hayden, and Lowri (who is in year 2 with Mrs. Brayshaw) is our only child. We live in Henderson with our two dogs, a gold fish, and a pet snail! We regularly attend, and are involved in, our church with our extended family.

I am a qualified teacher. My education work includes primary and secondary schools, but the majority of my career I have worked in early childhood education. I currently work for NZEI Te Riu Roa, the union for education professionals, as an organizer.

My experience and training gives me unique insight into the operation of schools. This knowledge will only benefit being a parent representative on the board.

I have previously run my own small business, and my work in early childhood education saw me mostly in the role of centre management. This mahi included total financial, pedagogical, and operational responsibility for the running of those centres. My current role is about organizing people who work in education through networks, events, training, legal processes like collective bargaining, and employment support.

I often work with the teacher and tamariki of Lowri’s class, bringing what knowledge I have to share with them and support the school in their kaupapa of ensuring tamariki have many different learning experiences, and supporting connections between school and whānau.

I see this role as a journey to bring further support to the school and support the continuing connections between whānau and school. I bring with me a te ao Māori and qualified teacher lens, as well as a parent perspective. I would love to be elected to this position by our school community.
